Does anyone have suggestions or advice on how to embed a PPT or PDF file on an Ethos course page? We have a request to make files available for viewing, but not downloading within one of our courses.
Thanks!
Laura, if you have access to a scorm authoring tool (ex. Articulate/Rise, Captivate), you can create a slide-show and allow the learners to advance manually. There are a few online ones that will let you import PowerPoint files. I used to use https://www.udutu.com/authoring-tool/
Powerpoint has a share to the web from the online version o365 of PowerPoint. You’d have permission to share the file and office365 the file would need to be accessible to the public (not sure if you want to go that route). You’d get the embed code to put that into a course page. Google Presentations will import the file, but there is an auto-advance for exporting. Short of the scorm file, you are putting your file out to the public. It might be difficult to find, but isn’t as secure as a scorm file.
We embed PDFs by doing the following
- Add the PDF as a document to the page
- Highlight the PDF link and click the link button to find the ethos URL of the document. Copy the URL
- Move to a new line. Use the iFrame button and paste the PDF URL. I usually use the settings - width 100%, height 800, enable scrollbars and show frame border
- Delete the PDF link
So I believe I’ve followed these steps exactly and can even see the iFrame in the editor view, but as soon as I save it, it reverts back to just the PDF link. Any thoughts as to why that’s happening?

Hi! Make sure you have “https://” at the front of your URL when you add it to the iFrame… when you are copying from the link window, it doesn’t include that…
