Instant learner access?

I’ve been seeing more folks presenting video or even more complex content on a webpage with a link to claim credit. Like this: Menopause and the Heart: What Clinicians Need to Know.

Is there any discussion at Ethos/Cadmium around enabling/encouraging this sort of model? I can see how we could do it through Ethos, and I can definitely see the limitations of doing it this way. But it’s a great way to get people in to the content right away.

Love this!! Making content more streamlined would be awesome!

This would be great if possible. Some of our programs that are promoted by partners would benefit from this model.

Laurie,
This looks like they are providing the educational content within the activity’s front matter. I think this could be accomplished as well and then coupled with some well thought out course objects to get the visitor their credits.
What are some of the limitations you envision with providing content in this way?

Hi Joel,

Yes, looks like that. Limitations include

  • we wouldn’t be gathering learner data unless they ask for CME
  • can’t embed learner assessment throughout using EthosCE’s tools (or could we?)
  • would we be limited to just playing a video, or could we have more complex learning prior to logging in?
  • could we confirm that a person watched the video (or engaged with the content) if they’re not yet logged in?
If you can address those concerns and/or recommend a step-by step for this approach, sounds like the Ethos community would appreciate it.

Laurie,
You are correct that it is not possible to use any assessment tools with anonymous users. EthosCE needs to identify the visitor to track progress on videos, collect quiz question responses, or manage other completion steps.
There may be concerns with how available credit is presented on an open activity like this. Credit eligibility rules will not be followed until the visitor logs in and EthosCE can apply the rules.

The MedAll video player tracks progress and blocks access to the CME credit until 10% of the video has been viewed. Once that threshold is met, a combined form collects the program evaluation questions and reviews the account details.

Here is a similar workflow in EthosCE

  1. Create a course shell that contains the video content in the course description. This content is available to any site visitor, including anonymous users.
  2. Include clear instructions for how to claim credit, including “watch the full video”.
  3. There will be a link to log in or create an account, and one of these will need to happen to move forward to credit claiming. In most cases, logging in or creating an account will return the learner back to the activity when completed.
  4. Once in the course, the objects should be:
    • Course Page with the full video. This object should be optional and skippable to prevent requiring the learner from repeating the video to move on.
    • Program evaluation; this should be required.
    • Credit claim. If there is only one credit available
    • Certificate

I hope this is helpful. If you implement something similar, please share. If any other admins have examples of streamlined activities like this, please add your experiences to the thread.
