Seeking Recommendations For Access to Enduring Materials in a Closed Course

Hi community, we have a large enrollment parent/child enduring course (currently closed) that had an attached fee. The course sponsors and learners are requesting that we open the course to allow enrollees to access the materials for enrichment. The caveat is if we open the course is that we can no longer issue any additional credits. The latest date to earn credit was 12/1. We are seeking suggestions, risks, and experience on how other organizations have completed this. Pardon the level of detail. We thought it might be helpful to include it.

We are including two routes and are open for other suggestions. We are grateful for your wisdom.

  1. Clone the existing courses
  • Keep the existing courses closed and clone the old courses
  • Enroll all existing students and do not assign any credit
  • Alert learners with a notification of availability of courses noting that the content is for enrichment only and state this in the course description
(this protects the integrity of the courses and limits risk)
  1. Modify existing courses (date and required activities)
  • Open the existing courses, change end date and inhibit completion by those that have not completed the courses
  • Set enrollments to closed (to avoid new enrollments) and as a safeguard add a prerequisite (ex access code), set payment requirement to hidden
  • Update course description that the courses no longer offer credit opportunities as of 12/1/2024
  • Hide the existing credit activity, quizzes (required) in the course outline (preventing learners from earning cred)
  • Add an additional hidden required activity that would prevent existing learners from completing a course (as an additional safeguard)
(we think that all that have completed the courses for credit would maintain their credits)
  • Remove from catalog

Many thanks for the considerations. -Dave

Hello - I have a few ideas.

  1. Expire the Quiz and Credit object (expiration date on 12/1).
  2. Add in an Attendance object at the appropriate spot in the outline. Mark everyone Unattended except those that claimed credit.
  3. Remove from Catalog/Calendar and API listing.

Good luck!
Susan
