Reminders & notifications system upgrade
We are very excited to announce our enhanced EthosCE reminders and notifications system! Over the past six months, we’ve been compiling user research, engaging with the community, and developing the latest version of our core reminders offering. As this release includes a system upgrade to an existing feature in EthosCE, we wanted to take some extra time to go over the nuts and bolts in a bit more detail:
Why upgrade the reminders system?
Quite frankly, sometimes we just need to start from square one and build something new. Based on the number of new feature requests we’ve received in reference to reminders over the years, it became apparent early on that simply adding new features just wouldn’t cut it. In order to satisfy the breadth of reminder improvements our site administrators and their teams were looking for, we decided to carry on with a full upgrade.
What happens to my existing reminders?
Great news - Nothing! Your existing activity reminders have been migrated to the new system and will continue to function as intended. The existing activity reminders setup on every published course or session will continue to send as long as the reminder is enabled on your site. The new configuration features included in this upgrade have been carefully selected to ensure existing reminders are functioning properly.
Can you tell me about the new features already!?
The reminders system upgrade includes a wide breadth of feature enhancements. While these are just some of the feature enhancements available, please check out the video below for an extended overview:
- Enhanced reminder event triggers including: activity enrollment events, date-based events for live and enduring activities, course-object based events, and form based events.
- New recipient list and user segment selection: send reminders to learners with varying enrollment status, send reminders to system roles, send reminders directly to single users, and send reminders to users working on required forms (faculty form add-on, activity application add-on)
- New delivery mechanism options: Choose between the option of sending a reminder by email, or for customers with the SMS add-on, send reminders via SMS text. We expect to add browser push notifications in the coming months!
