How to allow choice between two course options?

Dear Ethos Users,

Today I need to create a single path that presents learners with the option to take either one course or the other - not both. The courses have different approval/accreditation numbers and will have different certificates. I created a parent and have both courses in the outline, but am not sure how to proceed. What do you recommend?

Thank you,

Hi Laurie -

Are the two courses visible on the Parent registration page (relationships course type), or located inside the Parent once someone clicks “Begin” and enters the course?

Julie,

They’re classified as “Relationships,” so the former.

I just found it in the Course Settings - the “maximum children” setting. That will limit the registrant to taking only one of the child courses. Question answered!

But if there’s a better way, I’m all ears.

Laurie

Nope, that is the way that we do this. We have many webinars that can be viewed and then we record them to have an online/enduring option. We put them in a Parent and have maximum children equal to 1.

There is another setting on the Course Settings - Pre-requisites page at the very bottom (Course Access). It states the following:

  • Completion required will prevent enrollment in this course until the learner has completed the selected course.
  • Enrollment blocked will prevent enrollment in this course if the learner has completed the selected course.
I would like it to say/do, instead, the following (so we don’t have to have Parent relationships in this case).
  • Completion required will prevent enrollment in this course until the learner has completed the selected course.
  • Enrollment blocked will prevent enrollment in this course if the learner has enrolled or completed the selected course.
